Mike Bayer CADAC IIExecutive Director
Mike Bayer is the President and Founder of CAST Recovery Services. Mike attended Fordham University in New York and received his bachelor of science degree in Alcohol and Drug Counseling from Metropolitan State University in Minnesota. He is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC II). Mike began his career working with state funded clients in Minnesota at Twin Town Treatment Center's men's program. He then worked at The Retreat in Wayzata, Minnesota where the treatment focused on clients finding a spiritual solution to the void they filled with alcohol and drugs. Mike did his first residency as a clinician at Hazelden Center for Youth and Families where he worked with adolescents and families. He then continued his residency at Progress Valley men's halfway house. Mike worked as the Western Regional Director for Addiction Intervention Resources (AIR). Mike's knowledge and experience in the area of addiction intervention and treatment is not limited to the classroom and intellectual pursuits -- prior to his decision to pursue a career in this field, Mike himself suffered through years of drug addiction before making the decision to enter treatment, get sober and stay on the path of recovery.
Jose Hernandez Jr.Director of Recovery Services
Jose Hernandez Jr. has been working in recovery for four years. He started working at the Malibu Ranch, doing service work, taking clients to meetings and spending time with ‘newcomers’. It was a volunteer job. After that, he started managing Victoria House sober living in Santa Monica. He then began school at Loyola Marymount University for his Drug and Alcohol Counseling Certification. Jose worked for an interventionist/case manger in Orange County doing sober companion work. He then moved to The Canyon at Peace Park treatment facility where he worked at the women’s facility as a resident counselor for 3 years. Through job experiences, he developed a plan for case management- something clients are not often offered—that helps to bridge the gap. Long-term case management is essential in order to attain long-term sobriety. Jose teamed up with Mike Bayer and developed CAST (Complete Aftercare Support Team).
Colleen Kelly MA MFTClinical Director
Colleen Kelly, MA MFT is a California Licensed Marriage Family Therapist and an APA Board Certified Professional Counselor. She has a BFA from New York University, a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University and is currently working towards a Doctorate. With over 17 years of personal recovery, Colleen has worked in the substance abuse and mental health field in a variety of clinical settings, beginning 13 years ago with American Indian treatment centers. She was on the clinical staff of Promises Treatment Center in West Los Angeles and Malibu for 6 years in addition to working at Milestones Ranch Malibu, Beau Monde and the Laurel Canon Recovery Center to name a few. Ms. Kelly is a California Probation Certified Master Domestic Violence Group Facilitator and a Board Certified Subject Matter Expert in Substance Abuse with the Board of Behavioral Science. In 2005, Dr. Aletha Solter, a colleague of Piaget, certified her as an Aware Parenting educator specialist. She currently has a private practice in West Los Angeles specializing in addiction and couples work.
Kaveh ZalDirector of Clinical Operations
Kaveh Zal, CADCA, is a Certified California Alcohol and Drug Counselor. He has worked in the recovery field for six years in various positions. His first job in recovery was as house manager for a sober living in Century City, CA. He then became a recovery assistant at The Canyon in Malibu, CA. From there he moved on to Clearview Treatment Centers where he worked as the facilities coordinator. He was there a total of 4 years. Now Kaveh is the Director of Clinical Operations and works with the clinical team to insure the logistical needs of all CAST clients are satisfied. With his years of experience and clinical abilities Kaveh is an essential piece of the CAST team.
Norman LavintmanDirector of Intake
Norman Lavintman studied psychology at the University of Minnesota from 1999 through 2003. He has been working in the recovery field for over 4 years. He started as a Program Aid at Beit T’Shuvah Residential Treatment Center and was quickly assigned a caseload and became a primary care counselor. From there he worked as a Program Aid at Clearview Treatment Centers. He left Clearview Treatment Centers to open Transitions House Sober Living for Men in Culver City, CA. Norman is the Director of Intake for CAST, his administrative skills and personal experience bring perspective to the team and comfort to the clients and their families.
Tom TrainerCase Manager/Recovery Companion
Tom Trainer Through working in residential treatment for the last 5 years Tom brings with him a vast knowledge of recovery. Tom received his Certificate in Drug and Alcohol Counseling while studying at U.C.L.A. and is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Associate. His passion for helping others prompted him to give up a 20 years career in finance so he could follow his heart and give back to others what was given to him. Tom has been in recovery for over 5 years, and has been blessed to work with others in helping them free themselves from the grips of addiction.
Tom believes that deep down we are all good people despite old behaviors and that by meeting our clients where they are is crucial and integral part of helping our clients believe in themselves from the grips of addiction.
Angela YustDirector of Women’s Services
Angela Yust was first introduced to recovery as a teenager by being involved in Al-anon/Al teen. She studied art and psychology at Webster University and continued on to a performing arts conservatory, AADA where she completed her BFA. Angela then worked in the entertainment industry from 2003-2007 in Los Angeles. Unexpectedly Angela found herself volunteering at a not-for-profit organization. She learned there that she felt a need to work in the recovery field. She worked at The Canyon in Malibu from 2007-2009 before joining The CAST team. Angela has training in relapse prevention for sexual abuse survivors and helping those who suffer from eating disorders. Angela is a CADCA.
Chris RohloffRecovery Companion
Chris Rohloff carries the message of sobriety and helps others to recover with his position as a recovery companion with CAST Recovery located in Santa Monica, California. His past experience in this field started from his early days of working at Santa Monica Hospital in the Kariokas Institute Rehab as a rehab technician from 1991–1992. From 1993–94 Chris was employed with CPC Westwood Hospital in West Los Angeles as a rehab technician. He recently worked briefly at Seasons Recovery Rehab as a client advocate in
Calabasas in 2009 before joining CAST.
Joadi OglesbyRecovery Companion
Joadi Oglesby has been involved in recovery since 1995. Being a recovering drug addict and alcoholic herself, Joadi needed to go to great lengths to achieve recovery. Due to her addiction, she served 3 1/2 years in jail. Since her release, she has been attending the University of Southern California studying at the Marshall School of Business. Over the course of Joadi’s life, she has had many experiences that have enabled her to reach out to others suffering from the disease of addiction. It is only by getting through these experiences that she now has the ability to give hope to other people suffering.
