Arkansas, the Natural State, derives its name from the Algonquin name for the region, which is the same root as the name for Kansas. Bordering the Mississippi river, Arkansas is divided into the Delta and Grand Prairie regions. Arkansas played a significant role in the Civil War, supplying troops and resources to the Confederate States of America. Arkansas was also a hot spot during the Civil Rights movement, most notable with the Little Rock Nine incident. One of the largest companies that was founded in Arkansas is Wal-Mart, which serves as a major employer for the local population. Despite a deep sense of southern pride, there are times when depression sets in and people turn to drugs and alcohol for solace. If you find yourself encountering problems with alcoholism and drug abuse, please get assistance from a drug treatment facility; detox center, or outpatient drug rehabilitation program.
