Thursdays 7:00pm-8:30pm
At the CAST Office
1830 Lincoln Blvd, Suite 106, Santa Monica CA 90404
Our goal is to help families build a support system to reduce the level of isolation, anxiety, and fear associated with loving someone who is suffering from addiction.
Group Participants will:
Understand and begin to implement the 3 C's:
We didn't CAUSE the addiction
We can't CONTROL the addiction and
We can't CURE the addiction
Understand and begin to implement the new 3 C's based on what you can do:
What we CAN CAUSE (improvement in our well being, increased knowledge about addiction, treatment and how to respond to the addict)
What we CAN CONTROL (Our environment, How we respond to addiction, How we allow ourselves to be treated) and
What we CAN CURE (Our own emotional and physical health)

The CAST Family Program
No one understands the damage addiction and mental disorders cause to relationships better than family members. The symptoms that manifest as a result of these disorders are often misunderstood as personality characteristics and cause significant strain between family members and their loved ones.
Mental disorders often have similar effects on families as addiction does. Family members put their own lives on hold to help the "sick" family member. This causes resentment and codependency, both of which are unhealthy and dangerous to the family members themselves.
Family members often develop their own symptoms relating to the disorder. Pre-occupation, attempts to control, even sometimes hiding, sneaking and dishonesty begin to surface. Family members may exhibit elements of denial surrounding their own enabling or codependency, and can become detrimental to the relationship(s) that mean the most to them.
Family members need a program to recover from this experience. CAST can help!
The CAST staff understands the dynamics that exist within families that are afflicted by addiction and/or mental disorders. CAST will help family members learn the difference between helping and enabling their loved ones'. Learning how to "let go" without facilitating the next "fall" is important. The implementation of this is not something you need to do alone. CAST can help!
CAST urges family members to begin their journey in the Family Program, Whether their family member is getting help or not, family healing is important.
CAST will help you find the appropriate support groups.
CAST Family Services staff will teach you formal relaxation/meditation techniques.
CAST Family Services staff will facilitate family meetings on a regular basis and will be available for communication during "situations/crises" that may arise.
We will help you plot an effective course for the future through connecting you with others experiencing similar circumstances and help in healing your relationships with self and others.
